Othona is an open and inclusive Community rooted in the Christian tradition and drawing on a wealth of other inspirations.
Julia, my wife, and I are now retired but are kept busy, Julia as Chair of Refugee Action, and I as Chair of the Othona Community and a trustee of Refugee Action.
I am writing - mostly biographical stuff - and revising my Psalm settings (cf. New versions under ‘Music’).
I am also planting and tending about a thousand willow trees, another step in the direction of carbon neutrality.
We have a passive solar water heater and recently installed 15 solar collectors. With the resulting reduction in oil and electricity bills it becomes easier to live off a state pension.
I am troubled by the lack of knowledge about Christianity, not so much a lack of faith but an absence of understanding. I wish I knew how the challenge this represents could be met. I was never much enamoured with RE in schools but it was better than nothing. If attending church is not the answer, what is? That is a question I have asked the Othona Community to consider.
